Why NC Needs the Corps

Student-to-Adviser Ratio

Nationally, the student-to-adviser ratio is over 450:1, leaving many students with less than 20 minutes a year with a college adviser or counselor. High-need students often lack the guidance and support they need to prepare for college, apply to best-fit schools, find scholarships, apply for financial aid, enroll and persist in their studies.

Underserved High Schools

Students in underserved high schools, such as those in low-income or rural areas, are less likely to have family or friends that have navigated the challenging path to college and can be called upon for advice. The role of the college adviser is crucial in creating a college-going culture and increasing post-secondary path rates in these high schools.
