NC State University, Class of 2018
Major: Plant Biology
Hailing from Kernersville, NC, Annie Miya currently serves as the college adviser for Ayden-Grifton High School in Ayden, NC. Annie spent her undergraduate years studying plant biology and originally planned on pursuing a career in agricultural research. However, the relationships she developed within that time exposed her to the mental health issues facing minorities on campus, particularly within the first-generation Asian community. This combined with her own personal struggle with anxiety and depression inspired her to follow a new path in life. She plans on attending graduate school to acquire a Master’s degree in college counseling and help other first-generation minorities navigate the intersection between the cultures of their parents and that of the modern American.
